With a position in the French Open quarterfinals, Djokovic moves closer to breaking the Grand Slam record.

Novak Djokovic advanced to the French Open quarter-finals with a 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 victory over Peruvian Juan Pablo Varillas.

On a windy day on Philippe Chatrier court, the Serbian, who is level with Spain's Rafa Nadal with 22 titles, appeared unconcerned by his 94th-ranked opponent, the first Peruvian to reach a Grand Slam fourth round in 29 years.

He attacked Varillas whenever possible to avoid getting pulled into the extended baseline confrontations that had seen the 27-year-old win all three of his previous five-set marathons.

Varillas lost the great majority of the shorter rallies and was unable to re-enter the match, allowing Djokovic to advance to the quarter-finals against 11th seed Karen Khachanov.

Djokovic, a two-time champion in Paris, has now reached the quarter-finals of the French Open for a record 17th time, one more than 14-time champion Rafa Nadal, who is out due to injury this year.
