The Secret to Marvin and Jolina's Enduring Fame? They Never Dated
Although they were previously MUs, or "mutual understanding," Marvin Agustin and Jolina Magdangal, better known together as "MarJo," believe that one of the reasons for their continued success is that they never pursued their relationship further.
One of the most popular love teams of the 1990s is the MarJo duo, who will reconnect in the upcoming movie "Ex Ex Lovers." Magdangal is currently happily married to Mark Escueta, a member of Rivermaya, and the two of them have two kids. In contrast, Agustin is contentedly unmarried and has two kids with his former partner, Tetet Dy.
“Ang magic at chemistry ay nakikita pa rin sa [love team namin], dahil noong panahon na ‘yun noong bata pa kami — diba uso n’un sa’tin ang MU? Parang MU,” Agustin said of his love team with Magdangal during the film’s press conference.
“Dahil sa personal and professional relationship noong panahon na ‘yun, I think kaya hanggang ngayon na natitira ang magic na hindi namin alam saan nanggagaling,” he continued.
The term "MU" describes a couple that fell in love without naming their partnership. Although Agustin and Magdangal had a close connection in the past, it would not be as strong if they started dating. Their great love, which may have turned into intense arguments, led to a comeback movie.
Magdangal admits that if they choose to become a couple, their friendship wouldn't endure long enough. featuring songs featuring "Marvin and Jolina" lyrics, stories based on their work, and workshops with up-and-coming artists utilizing their lines, they aimed to produce a "beautiful film" that their audience could identify with.
Reuniting with Magdangal in "Ex Ex Lovers" comes with pressure, but Agustin acknowledged that they intended the movie to be comparable to their previous projects
The film "Ex Ex Lovers," which will be released on February 12, also features Juan Karlos Labajo and Loisa Andalio.
It has also been reported that Judy Ann Santos and Mylene Dizon, who costarred with Agustin and Magdangal, will have a special cameo in the movie.
