Vic Sotto Takes Legal Action Over Controversial Pepsi Paloma Trailer

Daryl Yap's latest film has sparked controversy by revisiting a sensitive chapter in Philippine history, particularly mentioning Vic Sotto. In response to a preview for the upcoming film, The Rapists of Pepsi Paloma, Vic Sotto filed a complaint against director Darryl Yap on Thursday, January 9.

The little footage specifically referenced Sotto's name, so he filed the complaint with the Office of the Prosecutor in Muntinlupa City.

Section 4 of Republic Act 10175, also referred to as the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2022, was violated on 19 separate charges. A request for P35 million in moral and exemplary damages is included in the complaint.

"The Rapists of Pepsi Paloma" will reexamine the late actress's 1985 death and rape case. Alejandro Yap is the director, and the movie is scheduled for release in 2022. Charito Solis, who was accused of raping Pepsi Paloma by comedians Vic Sotto, Joey de Leon, and Richie D'Horsie, is the subject of the movie. Paloma's mother and brother will also be featured in the movie, telling the narrative from their points of view. Five days have been granted to Yap to turn in a confirmed WRIT return. Based on the contentious Marcos-centered film Maid in Malacañang, the movie was released in July 2022.

Because of the ongoing legal struggle between the accused and the public, the publication of the film has been postponed. The response of critics to the film's release has been conflicting.

Media representatives got a letter from Sotto's camp regarding the filing of a potential criminal complaint "before the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court," but it omitted the name of the film's director, Darryl Yap.
