Blackpink's Jisoo Takes on Zombies and Romance in New Drama "Newtopia"

Blackpink's Jisoo is drawn to "Newtopia" for its unexpected blend of humor and romance amidst a zombie apocalypse. The drama explores the complexities of love and commitment as Kang Young-joo (Jisoo) navigates the terrifying new world while her boyfriend, Lee Jae-yoon (Park Jeong-min), serves his military duty. Newtopia," Jisoo's second lead role following the 2021 drama "Snowdrop," is set to premiere in February. This zombie drama breaks the mold with its unique blend of humor and romance, a refreshing take on the familiar genre.
"We've seen countless zombie stories, many dark and serious," Jisoo shared in an interview. "But 'Newtopia' is different. It incorporates humor, romance, and other elements, creating a truly unexpected experience."
The actress-K-pop idol even expressed surprise at some of the unexpected turns in the series, hinting at a captivating and unpredictable viewing experience for fans.
Jisoo admires her character Young-joo's unwavering determination. "Of course, there were moments where I thought I'd approach things differently," Jisoo admitted. "But Young-joo's resolute nature, her unwavering focus on her decisions, deeply resonated with me. Playing her boosted my confidence and made the entire filming process a joy."

Park Jeong-min, Jisoo's leading man, said that he had long recognized his co-star's professionalism and acknowledged that there were times when her attractiveness astounded him.
“Jisoo played a fairy in the film, and it was as if everyone saw an actual fairy. She really looked like one. I was stunned by how beautiful she was. And you know what? I have two autographs from her, sitting side by side at home,” he said.
