Taylor Swift's Vienna Shows Canceled After Arrest of IS Sympathizer Plotting Attack
Getting the Eras tour ticket is like fighting a war, and getting one is like winning the Olympics, but all the efforts you have will not be pursued.
Following the arrest of an Islamic State sympathizer in Austria in connection with an attempted attack, American megastar Taylor Swift's tour has canceled its Vienna leg, the organizers said on Wednesday.
A 19-year-old armed group sympathizer was earlier confirmed to have been arrested by authorities for allegedly plotting an attack in the Vienna area. Authorities warned the man to "focus" on Swift's three upcoming gigs.
"With confirmation from government officials of a planned terrorist attack at Ernst Happel Stadium, we have no choice but to cancel the three scheduled shows for everyone's safety," Barracuda Music said on Instagram.
Chemical materials were found at the residence of a 19-year-old guy who swore allegiance to IS and was taken into custody in Lower Austria. In Vienna, two people were taken into custody: the suspect and another who was allegedly in communication with him. In order to minimize actual risk, police have pledged to step up security, which will include sending out special teams for the events.
The cancellation of Taylor Swift's "Eras" Tour because of severe weather has left fans in a frenzy. The postponement has an impact on the tour, which started in Paris in May and is scheduled to bring in over 100 million euros from over 170,000 spectators in Austria. By the end of the year, the tour had already sold over $1 billion worth of tickets when it was canceled. The cancellation follows November 2020's first deadly terrorist incident in Austria, which left four people dead and 23 injured before the attacker was slain by police.
