Mariah Carey Understands Filipinos' Early Christmas Season
Filipinos begin celebrating Christmas on September 1. It's one continuous Christmas party. We used one of Mariah Carey's songs, and did you know Mariah Carey knew it? Even the queen of Christmas carols, Mariah Carey, knows that Filipinos are usually anxious to celebrate the Christmas season as soon as September arrives!
Over the weekend, a Mariah fan account tweeted on X (previously known as Twitter) that the singer's 1994 holiday smash "All I Want for Christmas is You" received over 316,000 Spotify listens on September 2, representing a 75% increase over the same day in 2022. Mariah retweeted the account's data and stated that it was too soon to predict Christmas, but she made an exception for Filipino fans.
"Not yet!!!! I’ll allow it for my Filipino lambs though! (I don’t make the rules!)" Mariah wrote, "lambs" being the name for fans of the 54-year-old singer.
Mariah Carey's Christmas idol status in the Philippines, along with Jose Mari Chan, was lauded by Filipino fans. On social media, Mariah has been personally welcoming the season, morphing from a witch to Santa following Halloween. Pinoy lambs are looking forward to her return.
