The suspect's home contained explosives and detonators from the attempted Taylor Swift concert attack.

Two individuals were arrested by Austrian officials on suspicion of planning a suicide attack at Taylor Swift's Vienna concert. The attack was supposed to involve a 19-year-old who was sympathetic to the Islamic State.

Omar Haijawi-Pirchner, the head of the domestic intelligence agency (DSN), announced at a press conference that the main suspect, a 19-year-old, had confessed and that he "intended to carry out an attack using explosives and knives."

“His aim was to kill himself and a large number of people during the concert… either today or tomorrow,” he added. The concerts were to run from Thursday to Saturday.

According to Haijawi-Pirchner, the younger suspect was "in the area" of the stadium where he was being held. He has thus far declined to speak with officials.

"A tragedy was averted," stated Interior Minister Gerhard Karner. In light of a recent attack at a Taylor Swift-themed event in Britain that resulted in the deaths of three girls, he continued, "The situation was very serious."

Upon searching the primary suspect's flat, officials discovered detonators and explosives.

Franz Ruf, Austria's top security officer, said reporters that the two suspects had lately changed their personal lives.

According to him, the first suspect—an Austrian with origins in Northern Macedonia—had altered "his appearance and adapted it to Islamic State propaganda," while the second suspect—an Austrian with Turkish or Croatian ancestry—had split up with his fiancée.

Ruf had already acknowledged that the arrests were the result of information obtained by the authorities "from foreign partners," albeit he would not say exactly what.

Swift's events were canceled despite the police's assurances to increase security for the concerts and reduce any actual risk. For each event, about 65,000 attendees were projected.

Following a string of stops in France, Sweden, Portugal, Spain, the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, and Poland, Taylor Swift canceled her concerts in Vienna as part of her "Eras" tour. The show was scheduled to take place in Vienna. The cancellation came after a mass stabbing in Southport, UK. By the end of the year, the tour, whose tickets have sold for over $1 billion, is predicted to treble its earnings.
