September 22 marks the start of SUGA's mandatory military service

BigHit Music, BTS' management firm, revealed on Sunday that member SUGA will register for required military service on September 22. There will be no official events on the day he begins duty or when he arrives at the training camp, according to the announcement.

“SUGA will be beginning his required service on September 22. There will not be any official events taking place on the day he starts his service or on the day he enters the training camp. We kindly ask fans to refrain from visiting SUGA at his workplace during the period of his service. Please convey your warm regards and encouragement in your hearts only,” BigHit Music said in a statement shared on fan community online platform Weverse.

After Jin and j-hope, SUGA, real name Min Yoon-gi, will be the third member of the South Korean septet to begin his service. The management company also warned fans not to be harmed by unlicensed tours or package products that illegally use the artist's intellectual property (IP).

“Our company will take appropriate measures against attempts at any commercial activity that make unauthorized use of artist IP,” it said.

“We ask for your continued love and support for SUGA until he completes his service and returns. Our company will also strive to provide all the support he needs during this time,” BigHit Music added.

All able-bodied men between the ages of 18 and 28 in South Korea are obligated to serve in the military for approximately two years. All BTS members were permitted to postpone their military duty until they reached the age of 30. On March 9, SUGA celebrated its 30th birthday. Following their service obligation, BTS (RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook) wants to rejoin as a unit around 2025.
