"Moana 2" Cruises to Record Box Office Success

Moana 2 continues to dominate the box office, adding $52 million in its second weekend. The film has already surpassed its predecessor and is now the fifth highest-grossing film of the year. Disney's strong performance this year is further solidified with Inside Out 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine, and the upcoming release of Mufasa.

The weekend also featured a number of new movies, such as Jude Law's crime thriller "The Order" and A24's horror comedy "Y2K," but nothing could ever seriously compete with the alluring Thanksgiving leftovers, "Moana 2," "Wicked," and "Gladiator II."
Wicked continues its strong performance, adding $34.9 million in its third weekend. Gladiator II and Red One rounded out the top five. With these strong holdovers, the box office is on track to exceed $8.5 billion this year, closing in on pre-pandemic levels.
While Interstellar captivated audiences with its stunning visuals and thought-provoking story, new releases like Y2K and The Order struggled to make a mark. Pushpa: The Rule – Part 2 emerged as the top-performing newcomer, drawing in audiences with its high-octane action.
"The marketplace is incredibly diverse," Dergarabedian stated. There is a re-release of a movie that was released ten years ago, as well as foreign and event cinema. It's undoubtedly one of the most fascinating and varied lineups I've ever seen.
Next weekend, moviegoers can look forward to the release of Sony's Kraven the Hunter and the animated The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim. Additionally, the award contenders Nickel Boys and September 5 will be released in limited theaters.
