Singer Dua Lipa condemns 'Israeli genocide' in Gaza
British-Albanian pop singer Dua Lipa has denounced Israel’s offensive in Gaza as a “genocide,” following a wave of pro-Palestinian protest that took place in London that saw dozens of people arrested.
“Burning children alive can never be justified. The whole world is mobilizing to stop the Israeli genocide,” the singer wrote on an Instagram story late Tuesday with the hashtag “#AllEyesOnRafah” which has been trending on social media.
After an Israeli strike destroyed a refugee camp, killing forty-five people, Israel's military actions in Gaza, which are concentrated on Rafah, have provoked blowback. Supporters of Palestinian rights, actor Pedro Pascal and supermodel Bella Hadid, have referred to Israel's offensive as a "genocide." The World Values Network had previously labeled them as anti-Semitic.
Reacting to the advertisement, Dua Lipa dismissed the "false and appalling allegations."
Pop star Dua Lipa has demanded a stop to the bombing and a humanitarian truce in Gaza, criticizing Israel's conduct there. She also signed US President Joe Biden's open letter. In reaction, after a pro-Palestinian march in London, forty people were taken into custody.
British celebrities Stormzy, Paul Weller, and Tilda Swinton have demanded a ceasefire in Gaza in response to Hamas' historic offensive on October 7, which claimed 1,189 lives and took 252 hostages.
