A second "Game of Thrones" prequel and the Harry Potter franchise are headed to the Max streaming service.

A new series based on the well-known books by author J.K. Rowling will feature boy wizard Harry Potter on streaming television.

The series was announced by Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD.O) on Wednesday as part of the company's plans for its Max streaming service, which combines HBO Max with Discovery's unscripted content.

Around the world, more than 600 million copies of the seven Harry Potter books have been sold. They were turned into popular films starring Daniel Radcliffe, which from 2001 to 2011 brought in $7.7 billion worldwide.

A new cast will be present in the upcoming series, and each season will focus on a different one of Rowling's books. The series will be developed over a period of ten years.

Executive producing the program will be Rowling.

The new adaptation will allow for a level of depth and detail that can only be achieved by a long-form television series, Rowling said in a statement.

In recent years, Rowling has drawn criticism for remarks deemed to be transphobic.

A new "Game of Thrones" prequel, titled "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight," will also be available on Max. The show's creator, George R.R. Martin, will serve as executive producer.

The television series will take place 100 years before the events of "Game of Thrones," at a time when the Targaryen family holds the Iron Throne. The company described the main characters as a "young, naive but brave knight" and his squire.

Both shows' release dates were not disclosed by Warner Bros. Discovery.
