You Should Try Peanuts in Coke, a Southern Tradition

Have you tried peanuts and coke or did you accidently put some peanuts on your coke and drink it? As strange as this combination may sound, it is a snack that both children and adults enjoy. The peanuts in Coke combination, and it may surprise you to learn that it is a southern tradition.

Coke and peanut combo  began in the 1920s.

Coca-Cola was a popular drink at the time. It was the drink of choice for farm workers, along with salted peanuts as a snack. Because the nature of their job required them to have dirty hands most of the time, they had little or no time to wash their hands during lunch breaks.

So the only way to eat the peanut and Coca Cola without their dirty hands ruining the snack was to pour the peanut into the coke before eating it.

People also said the pair made it easy for workers to eat and work at the same time. You only need one hand to enjoy a bottle of Coke filled with peanuts, leaving the other free for work. No one knows when this exactly exists.

If you have not yet tried this combo, here is how you can do it. Pouring the peanuts into a cold glass bottle of Coca-Cola is the traditional way to enjoy this southern delicacy. Simply open the bottle, reduce the amount of Coke, grab a pack of peanuts, tear it open, and pour it in. What you get is a fizzy sip with a satisfying crunch.

If you want to share with a friend, get a glass cup, fill it with ice cubes, pour in some Coca-Cola, and top it off with peanuts. Although drinking directly from the glass bottle gives you a certain feeling, sharing wouldn't be so bad.
