Discover the Hidden Gems of Filipino Produce at 'Gulay Pa More!' Event on May 25

Gulay Pa More! is an open event on May 25 celebrating the abundance of Philippine flora and food heritage, focusing on tabon-tabon, tatalongan, and kayumanis, and addressing issues surrounding their availability or lack thereof.

Hosted by Gulay Na, a Filipino food advocacy group! Gulay Pa More bills itself as the "first-ever fiesta" that highlights local and indigenous crops in the Philippines, in collaboration with the Good Food Community, Agroecology X, Lokalpedia, MASIPAG, and the PRESENT Coalition. Remember to mark your calendars for this: it starts at 10 a.m. at the UP Diliman CSSP parking lot. up until 7 p.m. on May 25, a Saturday.

The purpose of Gulay Pa More is to highlight the value of the native, indigenous, and indigenous flora of the Philippines in preserving their cultural legacy. The event features bites and drinks from regional chefs, purveyors, and other businesses that use fair-trade, locally grown produce in addition to vegan options. Due to their ease of cultivation, minimal water requirements, and lack of chemical requirements, local crops are essential for both food security and climate resilience.

These crops are culturally integrated into a community's identity, history, and surroundings while also assisting in preserving food security for nearby populations. Making historical foods a priority also benefits people, the environment, and culture preservation for future generations.

"Gulay Pa More is our way of inviting people to celebrate and protect them by making sure they remain in our diets," says Castillo. "...[And] as a fiesta, Gulay Pa More! wants to create a joyful atmosphere as we learn about food sufficiency, biodiversity preservation, healthy living, veganism, and collective care."
Gulay Pa More will be held at the University of the Philippines Diliman, Quezon City, in the CSSP Parking Lot. check out Gulay Pa More's Instagram page.
