Coraline Returns to Theaters in Remastered 3D, Exclusive Screening at Robinsons Movieworld from September 18-30
The animated movie Coraline is one that I initially thought would be a fun watch, but it ended up haunting me for years—especially those eerie button eyes. Despite the chills it gave me, I still hold a deep appreciation for the film, particularly for its captivating twists. Released in 2009 and directed by Henry Selick, Coraline is based on Neil Gaiman’s novella and has enchanted audiences with its dark yet whimsical narrative and stunning stop-motion animation.
Fifteen years later, the film's significance remains, and it will soon return to theaters in a newly remastered 3D format. For viewers in the Philippines, it will have an exclusive limited engagement at Robinsons Movieworld from September 18 to 30.
The narrative of Coraline centers on a young girl (voiced by Dakota Fanning) who finds a secret door leading to a different version of her life in her new house. This alternate reality appears to be far better than her own existence at first, but it quickly becomes hazardous. Coraline must use her cunning, bravery, and tenacity to save her family and make it back home as her impostor parents in this parallel universe want to keep her for themselves forever.
Aside from exploring themes of self-discovery and the intricacies of familial relationships, its complicated plot also explores the dangers and allures of escapism. Coraline is a timeless masterpiece because of its distinctive combination of wonder, suspense, and adventure.
Nike co-founders Phil Knight and Will Vinton developed Laika, which produced the stop-motion movie Coraline. Henry Selick, a director of several stop-motion films, helmed the picture. Neil Gaiman's novella served as the basis for the work. The concept artist was the Japanese cartoonist Tadahiro Uesugi, and the eerie soundtrack was written by Bruno Coulais.
The voices of Ian McShane, Teri Hatcher, Jennifer Saunders, Dawn French, Keith David, John Hodgman, Robert Bailey Jr., and Robert Bailey Jr. were used in Coraline. During its 2009 opening weekend, the movie brought in $16.85 million, and when it was rereleased in 2023, it brought in almost $7 million.
A 3D version of Coraline that has been remastered by Laika has made $29.2 million globally and $12.5 million in four days, placing it sixth at the US box office. Robinsons Movieworld in the Philippines is the only place to get the movie.
