Chef Fu Pei Mei's life story is now available on Netflix.

Before the rise tiktok chef influencers there was Fu Pei Mei's cookery show on RPN 9 on Sunday mornings if you were a child in the 1980s or 1990s. She taught future generations of home chefs how to prepare Chinese food by sharing her endless recipes on the cooking show. Her program was popular not only in her own Taiwan but also all around the world.


From 1962 through 2002, the renowned celebrity chef Fu Pei Mei demonstrated her culinary prowess on Taiwanese and Japanese television networks. She conducted a culinary school and produced more than 30 cookbooks while making more than 4,000 different recipes.

The "Julia Child of Taiwan," she won over millions of viewers with her friendly personality and aptitude for demystifying difficult cooking methods. Mei's attempts to standardize and record traditional recipes helped to preserve the culinary history for next generations.


Her cookbooks, including "Fu Pei Mei's Chinese Cooking," continue to be incredibly useful tools for budding chefs and amateur cooks, preserving the tradition of real Chinese cuisine.

What She Put on the Table, a Taiwanese miniseries that premiered in 2017, depicts Fu Pei Mei's life starting with her marriage and wartime escape. She learns to cook despite having weak cooking abilities and gains fame. She accepts an invitation from a TV station to appear on a program, and the experience irrevocably alters her life.
