Is There Room for the Resurrected 1950s Dunkin' Donut Today?
Donuts are one of the best things created in the world. Those soft dough with toppings that you will fall in love with. If you go back to the 50s donuts have handles. When it comes to original doughnuts, one of the first names that springs to mind is Dunkin' Donuts.
The brand dates back to the 1950s and has certainly developed through time, but you know what they say about classics—they survive the test of time. Or, at least, that's what we thought when we heard about a Dunkin' Donuts "Original" from the 1950s that's now available in a Dunkin' Donuts near you (yes, here in the Philippines!).
The company created a time machine to send one of its most well-known products 73 years into the future, but how is it fair now?
Dunkin' Donuts' name literally means "dunking." You dunk the doughnut in coffee, which is comparable to how we Filipinos have a breakfast practice of dunking pan de sal in coffee. This is why the "Original" Dunkin' Donut is so popular: the doughnuts came with a handle.
The original Dunkin' Donut is a basic fried doughnut with no coating, glaze, filling, or flavour. It features a protruding handle stick that distinguishes it from other donuts. It is thicker and denser than conventional doughnuts, but it is drier. It has a plain and modest flavor that is not sweet. The original Dunkin' Donut is supposed to be dipped in hot coffee, which absorbs the denseness and dryness of the doughnut and helps it keep its shape. It makes no difference what kind of coffee you use because the doughnut does not select its companion.
Where to Purchase
The initial Dunkin' Donut was purchased at the Dunkin' Donuts location on Matalino Street in Quezon City. The doughnut costs P40 per piece or P109 when combined with brewed coffee. Unless you make your own coffee, we recommend getting the latter.
