Cup Noodles may now be heated in the microwave.
Heating cup noodles in the microwave is bad for your health but most of us still do it, that is why Nissin said that it would redesign their signature Cup Noodles in early 2024. Paper will be used instead of polystyrene. Nissin also mentions that their Cup Noodles will now be microwaveable thanks to the redesigned packaging. As in, you were never supposed to microwave Cup Noodles.
Many individuals have been misusing Cup Noodles, a famous instant noodle brand, despite the label indicating "Do not microwave." The confusion could be attributed to the wide variety of instant noodle brands and containers, some of which are microwaveable, as well as the use of gadgets such as electric kettles. When heated, polystyrene, a common food container, can leak into food, particularly styrene, a potential carcinogen.
Microwaving Cup Noodles can damage the noodles' structural integrity and result in burns if the container fractures. According to one study, quick noodles are responsible for one-third of all childhood burns. Nissin's packaging has been redesigned to be more environmentally friendly, with 40% recycled fiber, no plastic wrappers, and a 100% recycled paper sleeve.
The innovative design also eliminates the need for boiling water, cutting heating time by 45 seconds.
