Ready your pockets cause fare increases starting August 2. The Light Rail Authority has declared that the LRT-2 would begin implementing fee increases on August 2.
The lowest fare would rise from P11 to P13 under the revised LRT-2 fare matrix, which was unveiled on Monday, while the highest fare will rise from P28 to P33.
The minimum and maximum fares for individuals who use single-journey cards would rise from P15 to P20 and P35 to P30, respectively.
In accordance with a directive from President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., the Department of Transportation (DOTr) delayed the introduction of fee increases in the rail lines LRT-1 and LRT-2 in April while it conducted more research on the effects of the increases on passengers. LRT-2 and MRT-3 price increases were last approved by the government in 2015.
Jaime Bautista, the secretary of transportation, acknowledged that LRT-1, which was privatized in 2015, filed four applications for fee changes from 2016 to 2022, all of which were "deferred." fee rises are occurring while inflation eases to 6.1% in May. LRT-2 intends to cut the percentage of subsidized fares to 46%, with revenue from rate increases going toward the common carrier's tax and operating costs.
