DTI Urges Public to Buy Certified Christmas Lights and Fireworks for a Safe Holiday Season

Christmas is around the corner, and if you haven’t put Christmas decor up, you need to read this first just in case you are planning to put Christmas lights in your home.

When purchasing Christmas lights and fireworks for the holiday season, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) advised consumers to exercise caution and only buy products that have been approved by the department.

Since uncertified products can cause fire, electric shock, and other dangers, especially around the holidays, the government has consistently emphasized the need to avoid purchasing them.

In order to assist the public in making safe and secure purchasing selections, the DTI—Bureau of Philippine Standards (BPS)—published a list of certified Christmas lights and fireworks goods on its website. The list contains information about importers, manufacturers, and product descriptions.

Cristina Aldeguer-Roque, the secretary of the DTI, underlined the agency's dedication to preserving the best possible quality for every product sold in the Philippines.

In order to ensure consumer safety, the BPS requires 109 goods and systems to be certified, including firecrackers and Christmas lights.

The trade agency recommended purchasing only goods bearing Philippine Standards (PS) markings and Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) stickers, which signify that the goods have passed rigorous testing and satisfy all relevant safety and quality requirements.

As we embrace the festive spirit, let's not forget the importance of safety. By heeding the DTI's advice and choosing certified products, we can illuminate our homes and hearts without compromising our well-being.
