Marcos Jr. Pledges Salary Hikes and Benefits for Public School Teachers on National Teachers' Day
During the National Teachers' Day event in Cubao in 2024, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. made a commitment to establish a fair and supportive work environment for public school educators.
''Public school teachers will be properly compensated once they exceed the prescribed six hours of classroom teaching every day. We are instituting these measures to foster a more balanced and conducive work environment for our public school teachers,'' Marcos said in his speech.
He declared his solidarity with Sonny Angara, the secretary of the Department of Education, and other government organizations in enhancing the standard of education, protecting the rights of educators, and adjusting to the constantly changing demands of the nation's educational environment.
"Keep shaping our students who will not only face the uncertainties of today, but will also embrace the opportunities of tomorrow," Marcos then urged educators.
"You hold the key to our future," declared the President.

“This year, I signed the Implementing Rules and Regulations for Executive Order No. 174 to bring more opportunities for your career advancement and professional development. No public school teacher will be retiring as Teacher I anymore,” Marcos said.
Marcos highlighted the government's initiatives to simplify the public school administrators' career path, enabling educators to progress into positions of management and leadership. Two separate career routes for Filipino educators are outlined in the new policy, which was enacted in July: classroom teaching (CT) and school administration (SA).
Instructors have the option of staying in the classroom and becoming more senior instructors or going into school management; those who stay in the classroom are assured of gaining status and income. The teaching profession runs deep in Marcos' family; his mother, the former First Lady Imelda Marcos, began her career as a primary school teacher before moving on to college.
Noting that First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos was a member of the faculty of Northwestern College in Laoag City, he said that she was an educator as well.
She was influenced by the fact that she was a practicing lawyer, but she was also influenced by my experience as an Ilocos Norte governor. "They are going to Northwestern College in Laoag," the President declared.
(She began teaching at Northwestern College in Laoag when I was the governor of Ilocos Norte; prior to that, she was a practicing attorney.)
According to Marcos, his spouse travels to Iloilo once a week to teach.
