Traditional Filipino Massage 'Hilot' Debuts at International Wellness Tourism Expo in Japan

We Filipinos experience being massaged whenever we  got sick and this Filipino massage is called “Hilot”. Our parents and grandparents usually go to a faith healer instead of going to a doctor.

In most cases we are healed. This is now recognized around the world. The Philippines first displayed the healing technique of "hilot," the traditional Filipino massage, at an international wellness tourism expo in Japan.

From May 8 to 10, the International Wellness Tourism Expo included the Philippines as one of its exhibitors.

Mylene Garcia-Albano, the Philippine ambassador to Japan, expressed excitement at her country's first appearance at the expo.

Through live demonstrations, Philippine exhibitors exhibited traditional healing practices such as hilot, spa treatments, and natural therapies to enhance physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

The Department of Tourism led the Philippines' first-ever participation at the exhibition through its Office of Product and Market Development, Office in the Cordillera Administrative Region, and Office in Tokyo.
The International Wellness Tourism Expo is Japan's first show that combines wellness tourism-related local areas, facilities, activities, and healthy food.
