Dismissed Bamban Mayor Alice Guo Arrested in Indonesia, DOJ and NBI Confirm
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced on Wednesday that Alice Guo, the mayor of Bala Bamban, Tarlac, has been taken into custody in Indonesia.
Guo was taken into custody in Tangerang City, Jakarta, according to a DOJ statement.
According to the department, Guo was taken into custody at 11:58 p.m., citing information from Senior Superintendent Audie Latuheru of the Indonesian Police. on September 3, a Tuesday.
“This development has been verified by our counterparts in Immigration, who have confirmed that Ms. Guo is currently in the custody of the Indonesian Police at Jatanras Mabes Polri,” the statement read.
In a radio interview with dwPM, Jaime Santiago, the director of the NBI, also confirmed the arrest.
It is anticipated that Guo, a former mayor of the Philippines, will shortly return home. Before being given to the NBI, she will be brought to the Bureau of Immigration. Before she is hauled before the Senate, charges will be brought. Guo's business partner and sister are in custody at the moment.
