Alice Guo, the mayor of Bamban, Tarlac, is charged with graft by DILG.
Undersecretary Juan Victor Llamas stated that DILG has brought graft accusations against Bamban Mayor Alice Guo before the Office of the Ombudsman.
“Sorry, I can’t provide [it for] you. Respondents haven’t received their copy yet and have not responded to the complaint,” the DILG officer said.
Benjamin Abalos Jr., Interior Secretary, stated on May 18 that the ministry had recommended to the Ombudsman that the mayor be placed on a preventive suspension.
The report that the DILG task force that was looking into Guo's connections to Pogo has filed contains alarming evidence of grave criminal activity. Guo's deputization has been revoked by the National Police Commission, under the DILG chief's directive, and the Senate is looking into her as a Chinese "asset".
In their respective jurisdictions, elected mayors and governors "are automatically deputized as representatives of the Commission," according to Napolcom Memorandum Circular No. 99-010.
According to the MC, mayors are empowered to oversee and manage police forces in the cities or provinces they are in charge of, as well as to directly hire and deploy PNP troops.
