Comelec Projects 4-5 Million New Voters for 2025 Midterm Elections, Total Expected to Reach 71 Million
On May 12, 2025, Filipinos will cast their ballots in the impending midterm elections to choose new representatives for 18,721 congressional seats as well as other local and federal posts, including provincial governors, town or city mayors, and councilors.
For the next elections, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) anticipates that 71 million people will be registered to vote. More than 5.8 million new voter applications have already been submitted to the poll body as of August 31: 2,827,058 from men and 3,004,233 from women.
However, Comelec stressed that the number of delisted and deactivated voters has risen and is now greater than the number of new applications received as the midterm elections' voter registration deadline approaches.
As the Philippines prepares for its midterm elections, voter turnout will be crucial in shaping the country’s future. With over 71 million Filipinos expected to register and more than 5.8 million new applications already submitted, the Commission on Elections is urging citizens to ensure their registration status is active. With a significant rise in delisted and deactivated voters, Comelec is emphasizing the importance of checking registration details before the deadline. This election represents a pivotal opportunity for Filipinos to voice their preferences in local and national governance and help chart the nation’s path forward.
