Senator Risa Hontiveros: Pastor Apollo Quiboloy's 'Happy Days' Numbered as Davao Court Issues Arrest Warrant for Sexual Abuse
Pastor Apollo Quiboloy's "happy days" are coming to an end, according to Sen. Ana Theresia "Risa" Hontiveros, after a Davao court issued an arrest warrant for him on charges of sexual abuse.
The Davao court issued a warrant for Pastor Apollo Quiboloy's arrest for sexual assault, in violation of Republic Act 7610. This means that his "happy days" are ended. Quiboloy was arrested by the Senate after he declined to show up for hearings on women, children, family relations, and gender equality.
According to some former female KoJC members, Hontiveros, the chairman of the Committee on Women, sexually assaulted them. A few of the men said that he made them beg in the streets and shopping centers.
She stated that the Davao-based Philippine National Police (PNP) has previously shown a desire to cooperate with other law enforcement organizations in order to apprehend Quiboloy.
"I am confident that it will be fulfilled and Quiboloy would be arrested," Hontiveros said in a statement on Wednesday.
She stated that the committee will anticipate his presence at its upcoming meeting after he is placed under custody.
She remarked in Filipino, "I also call on Quiboloy not to resort to drama."
Quiboloy, who declared himself to be the "appointed son of God," ought to collaborate and respond appropriately to the charges made against him, according to Hontiveros.
She praised the bravery of the people who came forward to seek justice on behalf of Quiboloy's alleged victims of sexual abuse.
Quiboloy is a TV evangelist who claims to be the "appointed son of God." The committee is anticipated to arrest him. Hontiveros begs him not to play the drama and asks for his assistance. According to Senator Robert Ancan, Quiboloy is only allowed to be visited by his family and attorney and could be detained at any time.
The arrest warrant for Quiboloy and five of his collaborators has been hailed by two MPs from the Makabayan bloc, who said it is a crucial step in getting justice for his victims. France Castro, the deputy minority leader in the house, expressed her happiness that the Department of Justice now had a fresh perspective on Quiboloy's alleged offenses. Rep. Arlene Brosas, a Gabriela Partylist, denounced the accusations, calling them a reminder of how those in positions of authority can take advantage of those who are weaker.
Quiboloy's years-long avoidance of punishment, according to her, raises major concerns about the "network of enablers and powerful individuals who may have been directly involved in helping him conduct his illegal activities."
"An investigation must be conducted not only into his crimes but also into his connections, as it is inconceivable that he could have avoided accountability for so long without active assistance from influential figures who are aiding and abetting him," Brosas stated.
