Dangerous Heat Index Expected in 17 Areas on Wednesday, Says PAGASA


On Wednesday, a severe heat index was reported in seventeen Visayas and Mindanao districts. This means that bodily cooling capacity is reduced by excessive humidity and unusually high temperatures.

Pagasa automatically classifies a heat index between 42 and 51 degrees Celsius as being in the "danger category."

When it gets to the danger zone, prolonged exposure may result in heat exhaustion, cramps, and even heat stroke.

The following locations have a dangerous heat index as of April 17, 5:00 p.m., according to Pagasa's most recent computed heat index:

  • Dagupan City, Pangasinan – 44ºC
  • Batac, La Union – 42ºC
  • Bacnotan, La Union – 42ºC
  • Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – 42ºC
  • Echague, Isabela – 42ºC
  • Sangley Point, Cavite – 42ºC
  • Ambulong, Tanauan Batangas – 43ºC
  • Coron, Palawan – 42ºC
  • San Jose, Occidental Mindoro – 42ºC
  • Puerto Princesa, Palawan – 44ºC
  • Aborlan, Palawan – 44ºC
  • Virac, Catanduanes – 42ºC
  • Roxas City, Capiz r – 42ºC
  • Iloilo City, Iloilo – 42ºC
  • Dumangas, Iloilo – 43ºC
  • Catarman, Northern Samar – 44ºC
  • Guiuan, Eastern Samar  – 43ºC

Pagasa encouraged the public to take the following actions in the event of heat-related medical emergencies:

  • Place the person in a shaded area and have them lie down with their legs raised.
  • If aware, ask them to take a drink of cool water.
  • Release tight garments, spritz cool water on the skin, and open up the air
  • Put ice packs on your groin, wrists, ankles, and armpits.Take me to the hospital right away.
