Manufacturers anticipate a stronger PH economy.
According to a manufacturers' trade group, the Philippine economy would improve in the later half of this year, showing a degree of confidence from a sector that is regarded as one of the key foundations of economic progress.
The Federation of Philippine businesses (FPI) leader, Jesus Arranza, said on Thursday that he expects the country's GDP to rise this year, citing improved conditions in local businesses.
“The construction [sector] is getting bigger. Construction is a big contributor. Manufacturing is also getting bigger,” Arranza told reporters on the sidelines of a forum organized by The Economist in Taguig.
“The only setback in manufacturing is what we have now. Manufacturing is having a lot of problems with smuggling,” he added.
89% of Filipinos feel the government should assist the manufacturing sector because of its economic contribution, and 62% say it contributes the most by generating job chances for local service firms.
