Taguig is charged by Makati for "forcibly taking over" some public schools.

In response to a Supreme Court ruling on their territorial dispute, Makati City has accused Taguig of forcibly assuming control of public schools. Personnel from the city's Public Safety Department sought to seize control of a number of public elementary and high schools in the barangays, which led to unnecessarily tense situations.

The upgrades in these schools, according to Makati City Administrator Claro Certeza, were financed and owned by the city. The Supreme Court's ruling concerned a border issue rather than the transfer of ownership of city-owned properties. Both criminal and administrative charges will be brought by the city. The conflict has been going on since 1993, when the Supreme Court decided that Taguig City has territorial jurisdiction over the region.

The Taguig government referred to Certeza's accusation in a statement as "a lie and another desperate attempt to mislead the public." According to Taguig City, the Department of Education shifted control of the impacted schools from the DepEd Division of Makati to the Division of Taguig and Pateros by Memorandum Order 2023-735.

"Taking their cue from the DepEd Order, the public school officials, teachers, parents, community leaders, and the City of Taguig have been conducting regular meetings in preparation for the Brigada Eskwela and the opening of the school year," the statement sent to ABS-CBN News read.

"It is in this context that the DepEd Superintendent of Taguig and Pateros has requested assistance from the City of Taguig, including the deployment of security personnel to ensure the welfare of the students, teachers, and staff, and the peaceful and orderly conduct of the aforesaid activities," it added.

Security officers were instructed by the local government of Taguig to coordinate preparations with the city of Makati, the national police, and other agencies. A school principal was unable to access her campus because the Makati government had illegally barricaded public schools and streets.

The Makati City Administrator made certain erroneous claims, which the Taguig administration challenged, saying they would make the affected barangays fearful and apprehensive. The importance of professionalism, service to the community, and conformity to the law were underlined by the local administration.
