Chinese corporation should not operate in the Philippines, according to Carpio

Antonio Carpio, a retired senior associate justice, said Chinese Communication Construction Co. (CCCC), which is currently working on multiple projects in the Philippines, should not be allowed to conduct business there. Carpio said on Friday to the Inquirer that the Chinese state-owned business was reportedly involved in the maritime conflict between Manila and Beijing in the South China Sea.

"The marine ecosystem in the KIG was irreparably damaged by the Chinese enterprises that excavated the atoll reefs to build artificial islands. This was the arbitral tribunal's conclusion, according to Carpio. The claimed actions of CCCC in the South China Sea, he continued, "clearly violated Philippine environmental laws" and "worse, they assisted China in annexing Philippine island territories and maritime zones in the KIG."

The Manila office of the US Embassy has condemned CCCC's reclamation work in Manila Bay. It was one of the 24 businesses the US blacklisted in 2020 over alleged South China Sea reclamation activity
