BIR upholds PWD and senior citizen discounts as being required

The benefits provided to senior citizens and people with disabilities (PWD) for eligible purchases made online or through mobile applications have been unequivocally ruled mandatory by Internal Revenue Commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr.

The declarations are required by the most recent Revenue Regulations Lumagui released, number 8-2023. Senior citizens' or PWDs' signatures are not required for online purchases, according to the BIR. When making online transactions, the senior citizen identity card number or PWD identification card number is still needed.

One of Lumagui's objectives in transforming the bureau into a service-oriented organization is to deliver exceptional taxpayer service, which is the goal of the regulation.
