In an effort to increase tourist arrivals in the Philippines, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has approved the implementation of the Value-Added Tax (VAT) Refund Program for foreign tourists by 2024.
According to the Presidential Communications Office, the President made the decision based on the recommendation of the PSAC tourism sector group.
According to Palace officials, Marcos plans to issue an executive order to implement the tax refund program, which is also being implemented in other countries.
On Thursday, PSAC presented Marcos with its "Quick Wins" proposals, which aim to boost the country's tourism industry by improving airport infrastructure and operations, managing the national brand and image, and promoting tourism investments, among other things.
Other PSAC Quick Wins proposals approved by Marcos included the extension of e-visas for Chinese, Indian, South Korean, and Japanese nationals, as well as the elimination of the One Health Pass or the requirement of only one form for health, immigration, and custom
