The DBM has approved the transfer of more than P25 billion for the health insurance of 8 million indigents.

The Philippine Health Insurance Corp. has been granted P25.16 billion by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) to cover the one-year health insurance premiums of 8.3 million qualifying and registered Filipino indigents.

Indigent people are individuals who have no apparent means of income or whose income is insufficient for family sustenance, as determined by the Department of Social Welfare and Development using defined criteria.

The fund will be funded by authorized allotments in the national budget for 2023.
