PH and Czech Republic to enhance cooperation in agriculture
Following a conference between the two countries, the Philippines and the Czech Republic are working together in the agricultural sector to increase trade and technology exchange, with an emphasis on livestock, dairy production, and water management.
Tiu Laurel stated in a statement on Monday that he hopes to increase the market for Philippine agricultural goods in the European Union.
"We have some products ready for export so market access is also very important to us, especially the European Union, which is one of the best markets in the world for our products," he said.
The head of agriculture showed interest in cattle production, water and irrigation management, and the dairy industry in the Czech Republic. He also emphasized the nation's agricultural information website. The Czech Republic's supply of cattle and dairy products is something the DA seeks to learn from.
The Department of Agriculture is prepared to support Philippine agriculture via trade talks, training for Filipinos, and irrigation and animal production support.
"We're definitely ready to offer cooperation. Your aims and ambitions are very similar to what we have in the Czech Republic, where our agricultural sector is also undergoing dynamic changes toward modern technologies, innovations, science and research, and the application of their outcomes," said Výborný.
The Czech minister added that in order to grow its agricultural industry and produce more food, his nation needs more Filipino laborers.
