Minor Phreatic Eruption Detected at Taal Volcano, Phivolcs Reports
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reports that a modest phreatic eruption—a steam-driven explosion brought on by heated water beneath the surface or below—occurred at Taal Volcano's main crater.
“The event produced a 2800-meter-high eruption plume that drifted southwest,” Phivolcs said in its latest update.
Level 1 Alert is still in effect for Taal Volcano.
State seismologists warned that "phreatic, gas-driven, or steam-driven explosions, volcanic earthquakes, and minor ash falls may occur under the said alert level."
Phivolcs stated that it is still forbidden to enter the Taal Volcano Island and to fly any kind of aircraft near the volcano.
