In December 2022, the unemployment rate dipped a tad to 4.3%.
Finding a job can still be hard nowadays and According to preliminary data from the Philippine Statistics Authority, the unemployment rate in the Philippines increased to 4.3 percent in December 2022 from 4.2 percent in November, despite the holiday season peaking.
In a briefing, National Statistician Dennis Mapa stated that "the difference between the December and November figures is not statistically significant."
There were 2.2 million working-age Filipinos available for work and actively looking for work in December, 43,000 more than the 2.18 million jobseekers in November.
Nonetheless, this was a significant improvement over a year ago, when there were 3.28 million unemployed, or 1.06 million more in December 2021. The unemployment rate was 6.6 percent at the time.
According to Mapa, what was more notable in the most recent survey results was that those who do have jobs have higher-quality work, particularly in terms of longer work hours per week, which means more money for them.
The jobless rate in 2022 was 5.4 percent, with 2.67 million Filipinos out of work. This was up from 7.8 percent in 2021, when there were 3.7 million unemployed Filipinos.
At the height of the pandemic in 2020, 10.4 percent of Filipinos 15 and older who were available to work — 3.7 million of them — were unable to find work.
The National Economic and Development Authority's Secretary Arsenio Balisacan stated that the government remains committed to providing "more, better, and green job opportunities" to Filipinos, particularly through the recently approved Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028.
