Bangko Sentral will soon sell colored coins valued at P100, P50, and P20.

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has developed a commemorative coin set in commemoration of the 125th anniversary of Philippine independence, which will be available shortly on the BSP store.

The coins, which have 100-peso, 20-peso, and 5-peso denominations, commemorate a significant event in Philippine history, namely the 1898 declaration of Philippine independence (P100), the birth of the country's first republic at the Barasoain Church (P20), and the bravery of Filipinos who fought for the country's sovereignty in the Philippine-American War (P5).

The set is the BSP's first colored, non-circulation commemorative coins, and it was created with the most advanced digital printing technology available.

While the coin set will be available for purchase on the central bank's web site, the BSP has yet to say when it will be accessible for purchase via its social media platforms.

From 2023 to 2026, the National Historical Commission of the Philippines will organize the 125th Independence Day celebrations with the theme "Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan."

Every year on June 12, the country commemorates the proclamation of Philippine independence from Spain in 1898.
