Secretary Eduardo Año of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) stated in a radio interview held on Friday, April 17 that another Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine extension may be possible if the COVID-10 cases continue to increase.
Año stated that if the number of COVID-19 cases continues to increase according to the epidemiological data, it is necessary to extend the ECQ. However, he did confirm that the country is improving as the lockdown has been effective in fighting the pandemic.
However, Año had stated that the decision still lies with President Duterte, and that the government is preparing measures to contain the virus whether the lockdown would be lifted on April 30 or not.
The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases is studying proposals of gradually reopening businesses until we can get back to the norm. He then assured the citizens that the recommendation they’re going to give to PRRD is for the betterment of the country and its citizens.
He then reminds the Luzon residents to strictly follow the quarantine measures and stay at home as much as possible. Furthermore, Filipinos should also continue the practice of social distancing, wearing of masks when going out, and observe the proper and frequent washing of hands even when the lockdown has already been lifted.
