Angara suggests that public school teachers' salaries might increase.
Senator Sonny Angara, the incoming secretary of education, announced on Wednesday that he will research the idea to raise the starting pay for public school teachers to P50,000.
Angara stated he wants better working conditions for teachers as well as increased pay and benefits. President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. appointed Angara to replace Vice President Sara Duterte at the Department of Education (DepEd).
"Ang sweldo is set by the Congress kapag nagkakaron tayo ng increases o umento sa [sahod ng] mga empleyado ng gobyerno. And 100% suportado tayo diyan at tinutulak po natin 'yan, especially nu'ng member pa tayo ng Senate Committee [on Finance]," he said in a Super Radyo dzBB interview.
President of the Philippines Duterte Duterte has stated that he is in favor of raising government workers' pay to a maximum of P50,000, including entry-level teachers. In order to help pupils concentrate more on their studies, Angara, who is expected to succeed Duterte as secretary of the Department of Education, has also supported the idea to outlaw the use of cell phones and other devices in classrooms. The use of electronic devices on school property during class hours is forbidden by the Senate Basic Education Committee Chairman Sherwin Gatchalian's proposed Electronic Gadget-Free Schools Act. The Teachers' Dignity Coalition (TDC), on the other hand, contends that since smartphones aid in learning, there should be strong laws prohibiting their usage in classrooms. The government is dedicated to securing the highest caliber of education and drawing in the most talented educators.
