Online Scammers really take this opportunity to scam online and it is scary to all of us one of an example of this is a 25-year-old man named Marc Tay Yi Jie take the opportunity of the COVID-19 outbreak to scam various victims of cash for masks and other items. This man also cheated on his church friend to loan $11,000 and promised it will be back but it did not. The sum of his cheating charges is more than $31,000.

Marc Tay Yi Jie, 25, was sentenced on Thursday (Sept 24) to 30 months' jail for nine counts of cheating, with another 18 charges taken into consideration.

The court discovered that Marc Tay Yi Jie is unemployed and disowned by his parents and not allowed to stay with his parents. His church friend helps him to lend him to support his daily needs. His other friends lend him money and use it to pay the inns and hotels he stays in. From the start of the pandemic which is March, he decided to conduct the scam online. He listed items for sale on Carousell and Facebook Marketplace, such as hand sanitizers, thermometers, masks, and NTUC vouchers which are on-demand until now. He does not have the items and the customers pay in full but he does not deliver the goods.
