You truly can become sick from using your phone and here's why.
We bring our phones everywhere, in the comfort room, school, office, hospital, you name it because the phones have germs that may possibly make us ill. According to research, spending the same amount of time touching mobile phones and bringing them into potentially bacteria-infested areas increases the risk of transferring germs, bacteria, and pathogens to the devices.
A study conducted by microbiologists at the University of Arizona discovered that mobile phones, given the average amount of time a person spends using them each day, serve as a breeding ground for germs and bacteria.
According to microbiologists, mobile phones contain ten times more bacteria than toilet seats, which are naturally cleaned on a regular basis because most people associate bathrooms with germs.
Bacteria, fungi, and viruses are among the most common microorganisms found in mobile phones. A separate study published in 2017 discovered that a mobile phone contains at least 17,000 copies of bacterial genes on average.
We need to clean them out and here is how According to the US CDC, mobile phone users should clean and disinfect their devices according to the manufacturer's instructions. If there is no guidance, it is suggested that alcohol-based wipes or sprays containing at least 70% alcohol be used, followed by thorough drying of the surface.
Other experts advised cleaning and disinfecting mobile phones as follows:
- Before cleaning or disinfecting, unplug or turn off the device.
- Gently wipe the device's surface with a soft, lint-free, waterproof, and dust-proof wipe, such as a camera lens wipe.
- Soap and water lightly dampen a washcloth.
- Cleaners should not be sprayed directly onto the device.
- Avoid using aerosol sprays and cleaning solutions containing bleach or abrasives.
- Prevent liquids and moisture from reaching and entering any device openings.
Dr. Dan Allan of the Cleveland Clinic advised wiping down mobile phones on a daily basis, or more frequently if they had been contaminated.
“In addition to this, he recommends routinely cleaning all surfaces and objects that you come into contact with throughout the day — counters, doorknobs, refrigerator handles, remote controls, your computer keyboard, and even your keys,” the Cleveland Clinic said, citing Allan.
Washing your hands is also a must to keep those germs away and your house, as they say a clean home, make everybody healthy.
