Pinoys Spend Over Two Hours a Day Listening to Music, Study Finds

Forget karaoke – Filipinos are world champions when it comes to music! 🎶 A recent study reveals that Pinoys spend a staggering average of 126 minutes (that's over two hours) every single day listening to music. Yes, you read that right.

That's the longest listening time globally, according to the Musika Pilipinas Project, a groundbreaking study funded by the DOST-NRCP. So, what's the soundtrack to our lives? Let's dive into the data.

“Music is more than a means of entertainment – it is the people’s way to communicate feelings, resonate their stories, and build on their emotions,” says Dr. Maria Alexandra Chua, project leader of Musika Pilipinas.

We're a nation obsessed with music, spending hours each day immersed in its magic. But here's the sobering reality:  for the very people creating the soundtrack to our lives, the music often fades into a struggle.  Despite music's undeniable cultural significance, a groundbreaking study reveals a harsh truth: over half of Filipino music professionals earn less than PHP 20,000 a month – barely scraping by on the minimum wage.

This means many talented musicians are forced to hustle outside the industry just to make ends meet.  Imagine the lost potential, the stifled creativity.  This eye-opening research, based on a survey of 700 respondents and in-depth discussions with music stakeholders nationwide, also sheds light on another surprising fact: a majority of these musicians, 61.1%, hold college degrees, and most are working as freelancers. So, while Filipinos clearly value music, are we truly valuing the artists who bring it to life? Let's delve deeper into this complex issue.
