Instagram begins enabling users to make AI portraits of themselves

US users can use AI Studio to create AI replicas of themselves for Instagram or the web, according to Meta. Creators and entrepreneurs can use these profiles to communicate with their fans, answer comments, and engage in human-to-human conversation in chat threads. On the basis of links, information, and subjects, users can personalize their AI.

Moreover, completely new AI characters can be created with AI Studio and added to any of Meta's applications. In this case, Meta is pursuing businesses such as Character.AI and Replika, where users have already interacted with and even fallen in love with themed chatbots. Meta will display user-generated AI characters for others to try, similar to OpenAI's unique GPT shop.

In an attempt to test this idea, Meta had a few famous people construct AI replicas of themselves that bore little resemblance to the real person but had distinct identities and personas. At the time, Meta claimed that the reason for taking that tack was its concern over improper statements made by AI superstars in place of their human counterparts.

(With the controls included in AI Studio, this is still inevitably happening. At least Meta appears to understand that this is a risky area. The business claims that all instances of AI profiles have prominent labeling. Further information regarding the AI creation process may be found in a company guide for creators, where it appears that the creator bears the responsibility of outlining the subjects an AI will not discuss. One of Meta's sample queries, "Should I invest in crypto?" is one that an AI can be trained to ignore."
