PH created CAIR, the Center for Artificial Intelligence Research.
The Development Authority (NEDA) has established a research center and strategy roadmap to use artificial intelligence (AI) to revolutionize the Philippines' social and economic landscape. The objective is to lead the region in the application of AI.
“The National AI Strategy Roadmap 2.0 will strengthen the government’s capacity for sustainable digital transformation, stimulate local innovation and entrepreneurship while enabling unprecedented opportunities in the digital economy. The roadmap aligns with the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2023-2028, emphasizing the transformative potential of emerging technologies in job creation and socioeconomic transformation,” said Balisacan.
CAIR intends to establish the Philippines as a leader in several AI application sectors by supporting technical innovation and multidisciplinary and cross-disciplinary research. The roadmap argues from the adoption of cutting-edge technology breakthroughs, including Generative AI. Additionally, it gives top priority to the training of full-time engineers, research scientists, and R&D staff.
The NEDA Secretary went on to say that AI has the potential to stimulate other higher value-added services as well as vital growth areas like software development and the creative industry. He added that the government can aid in ensuring a smooth transition of the Philippine workforce and economy to this crucial technology by establishing the CAIR and putting the AI Roadmap 2.0 into action. According to him, upskilling, reskilling, and training programs must assist displaced workers.
Balisacan emphasized that the Konektadong Pinoy Bill must be passed in order to strengthen the country's digital infrastructure in order to fully utilize AI for economic growth. By improving market accessibility, modernizing physical and digital infrastructure, and facilitating full involvement of individuals and enterprises in the digital economy, this measure seeks to provide cheap Internet access.
