Microsoft Teams can now host meetings in 3D and VR.
Microsoft Teams users may now participate in immersive 3D meetings with Microsoft Mesh, a mixed reality technology from Microsoft. Microsoft presently only supports Meta's Quest devices; Mesh, a corporate version of AltspaceVR, functions best with a VR headset.
In addition to allowing you to engage in virtual 3D meetings, the outstanding spatial audio feature simulates the capacity to hold private conversations in an office setting by allowing you to move away from other employees in a virtual area. You can also personalize the 3D surroundings with games like bean bag tossing or icebreaker questions for distant coworkers you may not have met before.
Every basic Mesh feature, including Teams' immersive areas, will be accessible to Microsoft Teams subscribers. It takes a Teams Premium license to set up a personalized immersive environment.
Although Microsoft Mesh still remains as a platform that lets developers access VR and AR experiences, its incorporation into Teams feels like a logical next step. When I tried Microsoft Mesh for the first time over three years ago, I noted that it felt "like the virtual future of Microsoft Teams meetings."
Concerns about corporate acceptance of these kinds of virtual meetings still exist. Though it's a small subset of the businesses who regularly use Teams, Microsoft claims that Accenture, BP, Takeda, and Mercy Ships are among the enterprises that are now utilizing Mesh. Although the Teams integration will be beneficial, Mesh already seems to be moving toward becoming a feature of Teams rather than a stand-alone application.
