An internal memo from the CEO of Google foreshadows further layoffs.

As the internet giant moves closer to artificial intelligence, Google CEO Sundar Pichai has forewarned staff members about possible layoffs in the upcoming months. Some teams will still decide how to allocate resources, even though the employment layoffs are not as drastic as the 12,000-employee cuts from the previous

“We have ambitious goals and will be investing in our big priorities this year,” Pichai added. “The reality is that to create the capacity for this investment, we have to make tough choices …. [and] to simplify execution and drive velocity in some areas.”

“I know it’s very difficult to see colleagues and teams impacted,” Pichai continued, adding that the company is committed to helping affected employees and to help them find jobs elsewhere at Google or outside of the company.

As The New York Times revealed on Wednesday, Google subsidiary YouTube was laying off one hundred employees, the memo was released. CNN has not independently confirmed the layoffs at YouTube.

A Google representative verified to CNN that Pichai's memo was real and that there are layoffs at YouTube affecting about 100 positions in the company's partnerships division, which manages communication with YouTube content creators.
