Google has unveiled Chromebooks Plus, a productivity-focused category of laptops with minimal spec requirements such as a full HD screen, 1080p camera, and increased processing power. The initial lineup of Chromebook Plus devices from Acer, Asus, HP, and Lenovo begins at $399.

CPU: Intel Core i3 12th Gen or above, or AMD Ryzen 3 7000 series or above

RAM: 8GB+

Storage: 128GB+

Webcam: 1080p+ with Temporal Noise Reduction

Display: Full HD IPS or better display

Google is adding video conferencing capabilities to Chromebook Plus devices, including a dedicated control panel for easy microphone and camera muting. Improved illumination, noise cancellation, background blur, and live subtitles are also AI-powered aspects of the system. Google Drive now offers automatic file sync, while Photos has received enhancements such as Magic Eraser and HDR. These features may be compatible with other Chromebooks, but they are exclusive to the Plus model.

A three-month subscription to Nvidia's GeForce NOW Priority tier cloud gaming service is also included with new Chromebook Plus devices.Google is adding AI-powered capabilities to its Chromebook Plus, such as a writing assistance that works across multiple web pages and AI-generated backgrounds. In addition, older Chromebooks will receive software updates for ten years. On October 8, Asus, Acer, HP, and Lenovo will release eight devices starting at $399, which will be available in Europe and Canada.
