Netflix is cracking down on users who freely disclose their passwords.
We love sharing things, one of them our Netflix passwords. We all know it is hard to enjoy a movie or series if your friends and family have not seen it so the answer is sharing our passwords but it comes to an end this March.
We love free but Netflix confirmed in shareholder letter that sharing your passwords is not allowed starting the end of March.
Netflix announced plans to change its password sharing policy in October, saying it would eventually charge people to share accounts, but it did not specify a start date.
Even now, the company has not specified a date, but stated in the letter that paid sharing would be expanded "later in Q1 [quarter one]."
"While our terms of use limit use of Netflix to a household, we recognize this is a change for members who share their account more broadly. So we've worked hard to build additional new features that improve the Netflix experience, including the ability for members to review which devices are using their account and to transfer a profile to a new account," the company said.
It stated in the letter that account sharing, which it claims is practiced in over 100 million households, "undermines" its ability to invest and improve.
