Microsoft is discontinuing all security updates for Windows 7 and 8.1.
Ending things can be painful, but we need to accept it and one of the things we need to accept is that Microsoft is ending its support. Microsoft is discontinuing all security updates for Windows 7 and 8.1.
Here's what you need to know:
The company has announced that it will no longer be releasing security updates for Windows 7 and 8.1 after January 14, 2022. This means that you could encounter issues when installing software on these operating systems after this date if you haven't upgraded them yet or if your device hasn't been updated yet at all!
The only way around this problem would be by buying an older version of Windows (or macOS) while they're still supported by their respective vendors, which isn't always easy to do given how old these systems are. However, for those who were still holding on particularly businesses and enterprise users who couldn't easily upgrade to a newer operating system, Microsoft did offer 3-year extended support, but at a cost.
If you are upgrading, Windows 11 is the best option because it is the most recent and will receive the most support and updates.
