LIST: The most-tracked social media and online platforms
Internet 2.0 published a report on how invasive social media and messaging apps can be, focusing on the worst offenders. Malcore is a security tool that uses AI to automate malware analysis. Here are the list below:
TikTok has the highest score of 63.1 out of 21 apps analyzed, and its developer ByteDance's alleged ties to the Chinese government are why the app is censored. TikTok maintains it respects user privacy and conducted its own technical analysis, calling the Malcore report misleading and inconclusive.
VKontakte is the second highest in the Malcore report, with 62.7 points for having the highest number of trackers and asking users for as many as 28 app permissions.
Viber is the third placer, with 46.7 points. Microsoft Teams is fourth, with 38 points. Outlook is fifth, with 35.9 points. Other popular social media apps are Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, WeChat and WhatsApp. Facebook has a low score of 16.05.
