Apple informs musicians that using spatial audio can increase their revenue significantly.
According to a 9to5Mac update, musicians with spatial audio songs on Apple Music will receive royalties of up to 10% more. Pro-rata shares for plays that are spatially available will be determined using a factor of 1.1 starting in January.
Record labels and artists would receive cash incentives from Apple to release music in Dolby Atmos compatible formats, according to a December Bloomberg story. Support for spatial audio has been promoted as a selling factor by the majority of recent tablets, smartphones, and wireless earbuds.
The whole portfolio of Apple's new products, including the AirPods, iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, and HomePod, supports spatial audio. The most recent Samsung Galaxy and Pixel phones, as well as any iPhone XS or later (save from the iPhone SE), are compatible with the format.
Since the release of 2021, new songs have been made accessible in stereo and Dolby Atmos, offering a 5,000% improvement in spatial audio. Netflix, HBO Max, Amazon Music Unlimited, and Tidal all offer this functionality. There is no release date for a premium HiFi tier on Spotify, thus its audio features have not yet been updated.
